More euro-cross from the weekend

Friday, April 13, 2012

Old school video of my first international race trip with Manitou. Super funny to see where the sport has come in 15+ years. In '96 5" of travel was big. The course wasn't that gnarly so we built custom 4" travel forks for the riders.

World Cup Plzen

There must be a crack down this season on video rights for the the big CX races. Nothing to be found on the usual channels. Luckily Sporza has the laatste ronde of the Plzen World Cup. I'm glad to see Styby making the same mistake I did over the weekend. He left just a bit too much room in that last corner.

And the disgrace that was the start that saw Albert, Mourey and Johnson get blocked by a cameraman

Steve Chainel looking strong going into CX season. Philippe Gilbert looking better. He's like the energizer bunny, he just keeps going and going. Awesome finish up to the Citadel in Namur.

Let the games begin

So cool seeing Telenet-Fidea and Rabo jerseys racing in the States.

Video Monday: Curtain Call

Good bye Spring Classics, hello Grand Tours. And what a Classics season it was. Who'd have predicted wins by Nuyens at De Ronde, Van Summeran at Roubaix, even Langeveld or Goss at the Omloop and Milan-San Remo. And on top of it all the amazing quadruple by Gilbert to finish out the season.

I get super pumped for the Giro. Easily the most beautiful grand tour of the three. I guess I just love the culture that surrounds the Giro. Having had the chance to see the race in 1999 was incredible. I was lucky enough to have gotten to see the late, great Marco Pantani in a TT and mountain stage before he was disqualified after testing with too high a hematocrit level. Maybe not so great because of that but at the time, it was the norm.

Two more weeks until the greatest show on earth!

Is Gilbert the new Mr. Amstel Gold Race?
